Activities

From the simple to the elaborate or for those activities that cost a bit to ones that are absolutely free, aunts need to be equipped with a variety of ideas to create a fantastic time for all.

Being activeBeing Active

As someone who has always been active, I love having the opportunity to share that with my nieces.  From playing tag in the backyard or just running behind them as they’re learning to walk and run.  It’s just so fun to be active while having fun.

It’s so important for children to learn the importance of being active and eating right from a young age, as that will stay with them their whole life.  Making sure kids find the activities that they enjoy doing is all part of the fun.  Getting them to try new things and eat new foods, helps to make them open to new opportunities.

From just having fun playing games, trying new sports, joining teams, there is so much that kids can learn from being active and so much that we can enjoy to participate in and watch as an Auntie.

We play catch in the backyard, kick the soccer ball around, take shots on the hockey net on the driveway, play Frisbee and so much more.  There is really no end to what you try and do to be active with your nieces and nephews.

As Aunties, our relationships with our nieces and nephews are not just about exciting day trips, overnight trips and experiences.  It quite often is the couple of hours here and there that we spend with these wonderful people.  And it’s about creating memories in the times we have with them, short or long.  And crafts are a great way to do this.

When they’re younger, they enjoy (and it’s important for everyone’s sanity) being kept busy trying new crafts, activities and games.  As they get older the times together will change, but amazingly I find that everyone can get interested and excited by doing something with their hands and their creativity.

From colouring and simple games to putting together LEGOs (sometimes not so simple), to getting a bit messy painting and building to just having some plain old fun playing board games or cards.  Every creative moment you spend together will be a learning and growing experience for all of you.

Check out some cool crafts and activities for you and your nieces and nephews.
